"Inhabiting the shadow to reignite the light."

👉 Hello, I am Sonia masseuse holistic therapist and Reiki master in Flor de Agua Barcelona, I love to share with you today this article, I hope you will enjoy it! (Sorry if there is some "weirds words", I am native french and this the translated version) 🌿🙏

1. Empathy and Compassion: Breaking the Cycle from the Light

When a person drains us, the immediate reaction is usually anger, resentment, or the urge to run away. We live in a culture that constantly tells us to walk away from "negativity," but the reality is that complex or toxic people exist, and if they are part of your family or work environment, cutting ties instantly isn't always an option.

Paradoxically, the first technique to avoid losing more energy isn't to fight, but to activate compassion. Mind you: this doesn't mean wearing yourself out further for the other person or justifying their behavior. It means reflecting calmly—once you are no longer in their presence—on what drives them to act that way. What trauma, wound, or unconscious pattern lies behind their behavior? Understanding their perspective isn't agreeing with them; it's an effort to let go of resentment. By bringing light to their shadow, you help dissipate your own anger.

In controlled situations, you can test this shift in energy. If the person attacks or verbally confronts you, pause instead of reacting out of anger. Take a breath and respond with a serene phrase they won't expect:

“I see you are going through a very difficult moment and I'm sorry you feel this way, but I am not going to engage in this argument.”

Observe their reaction without judgment. If they insist on manipulating or attacking, do not fall into the trap. By breaking the habitual pattern, you open the door for the dynamic to shift. Whether it works on the other person or not, this technique clears your own energy: transforming anger into neutrality or love prevents you from gifting them your vitality long after they are gone.

2. Setting Firm and Assertive Boundaries: True Protection

Learning to set boundaries doesn't happen overnight; it is trained through experience. For a boundary to clear your energetic field without wearing you down, it must be assertive, clear, and leave no room for negotiation.

A golden rule when dealing with people who drain your energy is to avoid begging for empathy or over-explaining yourself. Saying: “Please understand me, I'm just so tired and my head hurts” gives the other person material to debate your emotional state or play the victim. Boundaries are not begged for; they are communicated from a place of calm firmness.

Use the "broken record" technique: express your boundary calmly and repeat it up to three times if necessary, making it clear that there will be consequences if it is crossed:

“I am not going to discuss this topic in this tone. If you continue shouting, I am going to hang up the phone / walk into another room.”

If the person continues, enforce the consequence without anger, simply keeping your word. Expressing these boundaries consciously, out loud or in writing, gives you back control and stops you from overthinking the situation for days.

3. Patterns, Environment, and Energetic Self-Regulation

Beyond empathy and boundaries, energetic cleansing requires understanding how we relate to our environment every day:

  • The myth that “nothing should affect you”: We are social beings, and it is completely natural for other people's moods to impact us. The goal isn't to turn into stone, but to learn how to adjust the volume of that influence.

  • Accepting what you feel: Do not judge yourself for feeling angry, sad, or exhausted. Observe your emotions with kindness, give them space to be processed, and let them go without getting stuck in complaint or worry.

  • Identify your “vitamin people”: Choose your inner circle with care. Often, the people who nourish us most are not the loudest or most effusive, but those who bring a quiet calm, don't judge, and support us for the long haul.

  • The value of solitude and an active mind: If you are a sensitive or introverted person, you need time alone to restore your magnetic field. Redirecting your mind toward creative or bodily activities prevents you from getting trapped in a mental loop.

  • What to do on a physical level: After a draining encounter, shake your body, take a conscious shower, take time to focus your attention back on your body, walk barefoot, or go out into nature to discharge the excess emotional weight. Receiving a holistic manual therapy session is also a deep way to release that tension.

4. Holistic Massages and Reiki, Manual Holistic Therapies : Going One Step Further in Your Energetic Cleansing

When you have spent years around complex people repeating the same patterns, the body stores that memory in its tissues. Although daily tools help, holistic therapy is key to doing deeper work focused on soul wounds and the past. If you feel you need an energetic and bodily release, you can share your situation with me before the session so we can approach the process in a completely personalized way. Through conscious touch, guided meditations, channelization techniques, and auric field cleansing, I help you return to your center.
